The TIARA array is designed primarily for use with the Exogam gamma-ray array.
Exogam has a purpose-built data acquisition system that can be exploited to
advantage for deploying TIARA. However, there are a number of reasons for not
wanting to limit TIARA to only being able to be operated with Exogam using the
Exogam electronics. For example, Exogam will be used in a number of different
configurations including several that do not employ the full complement of
germanium detectors. These detectors would thus be released for use elsewhere
at various times, including for example the LISE beamline in GANIL. Indeed,
LISE provides an ideal place to mount transfer experiments as it can provide
isotopically pure beams produced by fragmentation. Thus, the TIARA array should
be adaptable to other data acquisition systems. The choice of commercial NIM
amplifiers allows this flexibility.
