Suppose the removed nucleon has ? = 2 …
the contributions to dy0 from different m-substates are different
… this affects the shape of the p // distribution
also, in general, for higher ? the width of p // will be larger,
since the magnitude of the momentum p ? ? / R is larger
… i.e. the width of p// is a measure of l of the removed nucleon
For example ? = 2 … m = 0, ±1, ±2 and effect increases with ? m ?
Thus with lower m’s somewhat removed (these have linear
momentum components along the z-axis as they orbit around)
the parallel momentum distribution becomes narrower
With the higher m-values reduced (m= ±2 ) the contribution at
the mean value of p // is reduced (linear momentum is mainly
aligned perpendicular to the z-axis) and gives a dip in the middle
